July is recognized as UV Safety Month! While spending time at the beach or pool is a classic summer activity, it’s important to raise awareness and learn about the dangers of sun exposure. Early detection and treatment of skin cancers such as basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma are critical. Efficient and accurate documentation is essential during the busy summer season as dermatologists work hard to screen for skin cancer. DAX Copilot and Dragon Medical One (DMO) help dermatologists stay focused on patients, not paperwork.

Dermatological surgical procedures, like Mohs surgery, contain multiple stages and are very heavy in detail. Due to this, they require accurate and detailed documentation. DAX Copilot and DMO provide the dermatologist with a hands-free, sterile documentation tool. They listen to the patient/dermatologist conversation during all aspects of the procedure and automatically turn it into documentation that is captured directly into the EHR. This allows the dermatologist to stay focused on the patient and the procedure in front of them instead of worrying about documentation.
In addition to assisting with surgical procedures, DAX Copilot can also be used in general dermatology visits for things such as acne, rashes, and mole checks. By using DAX Copilot in their daily practice, dermatologists can efficiently educate patients on sun safety and skin monitoring without dividing their attention.
During UV Safety Month, and every month, it’s important to take the proper precautions to avoid harmful UV rays and prevent skin cancer. The easiest way is to stay in shaded areas, especially during the midday hours. If you have to go in the sun, be sure to wear protective clothing that covers your arms and legs and a hat that covers your face. Sunglasses and SPF 30 or higher sunscreen are also recommended. Avoiding tanning beds/booths and other forms of artificial UV is important to protect against skin cancer.
