As the Covid-19 crisis continues to wreak havoc on many areas of our country, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services* (CMS) have issued multiple waivers, providing flexibility (e.g., geographic location, type of health site) during the pandemic and granting payment parity between telehealth and in-person clinical care for Medicare. With the statistics of the 1135 waiver program recently reported, the CMS is reviewing the flexibilities the administration has introduced and their early impact on Medicare beneficiaries to inform whether these changes should be made a permanent part of the Medicare program. Many Orthopaedic offices will be able to continue virtual visits if the extension is made permanent.
